Liquid Termite Treatments
Repellent Liquid Treatment
Repellent Liquid termite treatment was the primary treatment until 1995. Repellent chemicals are placed in termite entry points and repels termites when they try to enter. Termites can enter a hole as small as 1/16 of an inch. How many 1/16 inch holes do you think you have in the average home or structure. My guess is a lot. Keeping termites out by exclusion was the best we had at the time. If I had to put a number on it's effectiveness I would say 75% effective. Repellents can do a good job in the right hands, but can not stop termites in a structure that has critical conditions conducive to termite infestations. Old fashion technology, but still useful for pre-construction treatments.
Termidor Liquid Non-repellent Treatment
After bait systems came to the market around1995 we were still looking for the magic bullet termite treatment. Premise 2 was released as a non-repellent. We started using it right away and it did reduce the amount of re-treatments for our company. We were happy.
Then in 2000 Termidor was released to 8 termite companies nation wide after exceeding every termite product test result in history. We were eager to start using it. We treated at full strength 1.25% at first because our termite company had a guaranty on each treatment and the product had no commercial track record. We of course did a full treatment on each guarantee we issued that covered future damage.
After the first year we noted that only two homes that had be treated with Termidor needed re treatment. I later tracked down what we believe was the cause of the treatment failure. It seems in both cased the termite technician mixed Termidor with what he had left over in his tank from the day before. After that we cleaned all our tanks and only used Termidor in clean tanks or tanks that were designated for Termidor only. Since then we have had no termite treatment failures and this is the only product to date that can make this claim. Termidor is the product of choice for 99% of all termite treating companies.
How a liquid sub-terranean termite treatment is done
A termite treatment using a repellent or a non-repellent is done the same way. The only difference is the chemical you use and the cost of the product.
Comprehensive Termite Treatment : Crawl Space
- Dig a trench around the base of the structure 4 to 6 inches wide and 4 to 6 inches deep.
- If you have a crawl space trench the outside foundation wall, same size trench.
- If you have a crawl space trench around each support pier.
- If you have a hollow foundation wall you will need to drill 1/4 inch holes in each void.
- You will need to drill holes in each support pier
- Patios, porches, driveways that are up against your foundation wall can't be trenched so you have to vertical drill. (Drill 4 inches out from your foundation wall and drill a 1/2 or 3/8 inch hole every 12 inches.
- Now you are ready to apply chemical.
- Mix your chemical product with water in a termite treatment rig tank,
- Your rig has a 200 to 300 foot hose with a treatments tip shut off valve.
- Move to the trench and put in 4 gallons of finished product for every ten foot section of your outside trench.
- If you have drilled holes in your foundation wall put 2/10 gallon in every hole.
- Now go underneath and treat the trenches and the holes you drilled in each pier.
- Clean up, you are done
